Medical Nutrition:
Medical foods are the recent product of a conversion of the Food and
Pharma industries. These products are
specific nutritional compositions that may be used to prevent or delay disease
progression and/or for alleviation of disease symptoms. To illustrate the potential that Medical
foods have to achieve such goals Faber et al. (June 2013) report that nutritional
intervention in Cancer patients with a specific medical food rapidly increased
the percentage EPA and DHA in white blood cell phospholipids and reduced serum
levels of the inflammatory mediator PGE2 within one week. This is just one example to support the
advancement of this rapidly emerging field for addressing health and wellness.
